In this work, Sophie Dumont continues her exploration of libraries as mental architectures. More than a simple representation, Point d’articulation is organized around a principle of tension and balance, where each element finds its place within a rigorous and silent construction.
The composition is structured into interlocking modules, creating a visual rhythm based on repetition and variation. The book spines, treated as textured flat tints, become vertical lines that punctuate the space and establish a dynamic that is both stable and vibrant. The center, marked by a denser horizontal sequence, acts as a tipping point—a true pivot around which the whole is organized.
The palette, dominated by muted tones—off-whites, ochres, deep blues—is punctuated by intense reds that introduce a controlled chromatic tension. This contrast grants the work an assertive presence without ever breaking its internal equilibrium. As in all her work, Sophie Dumont builds the surface through successive layers of matter, alternating between application and removal. This approach gives the painting a subtle depth, where traces of time and gesture emerge. Through this piece, the artist offers a vision of the library as a place of memory and thought, where structure becomes language and color, a vehicle for contained emotion.
