The Story of Pop Art
Pop art is more than a passing trend - it represents a true revolution against tradition in art, rebelling against high-class art critics and exclusive collectors, and challenging how art "should" look and be produced.
Pop art began as an intentional challenge to abstract expressionists and traditional definitions of what art should look like, challenging abstract expressionism while pushing against old notions of what "should" make art. Pop Art emerged to address such ideas that considered it necessary for works of art to consist of landscape paintings, portraits or abstract pieces created using certain techniques or skills by highly-skilled experts and then simply be thrown away after completion; while contraryly in Pop Art its subjects typically consist of well-recognized objects or figures recognized in society along with strong lines that express its message about creation versus destruction by detractors of abstract expressionism versus its strict definition and its acceptance into society.
Pop art is both striking and charming; its playful spirit makes it easily relatable for everyday individuals as well. The goal of wall decor's wall art movement was to break down distinctions between high-end art lovers and ordinary individuals by connecting all people with beautiful art in some form or fashion.
Pop art originated in Britain during the 1950s mid century. Curator Lawrence Alloway coined the term Pop Art to denote "popular art", since this art form was created specifically to appeal to mass consumption with subjects including popular celebrities from films or commercials as the subjects for each work of pop art.
