Artist Qaligraf has created a unique artwork using a surfboard as a canvas, on which he has inscribed a verse related to the prophet Jonah, known as Younes in Islamic tradition, who was swallowed by a whale. This gigantic artwork combines calligraphy and contemporary art, marrying tradition and modernity in an innovative way.
The verse mentioned in the Quran mentions the story of Jonah. One of the relevant verses is: "O You, whose servant is most beloved is he who calls upon You continually, and whose servant is most hated is he who does not call upon You, and there is no one like that except You, O my Lord."
This work by Qaligraf is therefore a tribute not only to the story of Jonah, but also to resilience, repentance and faith. Using a surfboard could symbolise the journey, endurance in the face of hardship and the connection with the ocean, a central element in the story of Jonah.
