The composition rests on a subtle balance between natural tones—dull greens, brown earths, ochres, and grayish blues—and touches of red that structure the space and infuse it with a livelier tension. The vast light surfaces bring a breath and evoke the diffuse light of the Norman coastal landscapes.
Realized in oil, mainly with a knife, the work reveals a rich material, made of superimpositions, rubs, retreats, and visible traces. These variations in texture give the landscape a particular depth, as if several states of the territory and memory coexisted on the surface of the canvas.
At the border of figuration and abstraction, it does not describe a precise place. The work rather restitutes a sensation of space, calm, and permanence. The landscape thus becomes an inner territory, silent but inhabited, in which everyone can project their own memories.
