Description
Frame: black or wood (collector’s choice)
In Au Bord du Jour, Sophie Dumont offers a refined vision of the landscape, reduced to a few essential lines where sky, water, and earth seem to merge in a single, silent breath. The broad horizontal layers, worked through successive superimpositions of oil paint, create a subtle depth and a sensation of infinite space.
The palette, dominated by luminous grays, patinated beiges, and delicately nuanced blues, evokes the Normandy coast at dawn, when the light still wavers between shadow and brightness. A dark band runs through the composition and structures the whole, while the knife marks, transparencies, and erasures reveal the painting’s duration and the richness of its texture.
Without describing a specific place, the work invites a contemplative experience. Between abstraction and landscape, it suggests an inner horizon where the gaze can wander freely, carried by calm and light.
Sophie Dumont’s works are present in numerous private collections around the world as well as in several museum collections.
