Description
In The Unknown, Sophie Dumont brings an human figure to the surface from an assembly of geometric shapes. The construction remains deliberately ambiguous: the character appears clearly, without becoming an identifiable portrait.
The bluish grays, dull greens, cream, and ochre are confronted by deep brown-black masses crossed by dark red traces. The successive layers, scrapes, and reprises give the surface an irregular material that disrupts the rigor of the construction.
This work continues Sophie Dumont’s recent research on a geometric abstraction capable of suggesting a human presence while retaining several levels of reading.
Oil on linen canvas, 65 × 54 cm, 2026. Original and unique work, signed.
