Rhapsodie colorée, 2025

The artist offers either a black or natural wood frame.

In Rhapsodie Colorée, Sophie Dumont offers us a reinterpreted vision of the landscape, where matter and color combine to create a vibrant and immersive composition. This oil on canvas, initially created in 2024 and reworked in 2025, testifies to a process of artistic maturation, where each new intervention enriches the depth and dynamics of the work.

The pictorial space is structured by fragmented geometric shapes, evoking plots of land, mosaic fields, and reliefs sculpted by time. Warm tones—ochres, reds, and yellows—blend with deep greens and touches of blue, establishing a subtle chromatic dialogue between energy and tranquility. The texture, achieved through assertive knife work, reinforces this impression of relief and movement, giving the canvas an almost tactile materiality.

Far from being a simple representation of a territory, Rhapsodie Colorée invites a sensory reading of the landscape. The contrasts between marked lines and more blurred areas suggest a nature in perpetual mutation, capturing a fleeting moment where light and matter interact harmoniously. The sky, soothing in its shades of grayish blue, serves as a counterpoint to the intensity of the earth’s colors, like a breath suspended before the storm or after the clearing.

This work perfectly illustrates Sophie Dumont’s approach: a work on the memory of the landscape, where each pictorial layer becomes a stratum of emotions and interpretations. By revisiting and reworking this canvas in 2025, the artist extends her dialogue with the image, giving it a new dimension and renewed resonance.

“Colorful Rhapsody” is thus a vivid exploration of matter and time, an invitation to lose oneself in the abstraction of reality while capturing its essence. A work that, like captivating music, gives free rein to the viewer’s imagination.
