Beschrijving
In Fifty-Fifty, Sophie Dumont builds the library as a true architecture of forms. The books, aligned, superimposed or interrupted, organize the surface in a succession of verticals and horizontals that give the composition its rhythm.
The deliberately restricted palette associates off-whites, grays, beige, ochre and brown with a few deeper values. The material, worked by successive layers, scrapes and reprises, disturbs the regularity of the construction and allows the traces of the pictorial work to appear.
At the border between representation and abstraction, Fifty-Fifty belongs to the series of Sophie Dumont’s Libraries while affirming a particularly present geometry. The books remain recognizable, but also become lines, volumes and surfaces.
