Beschrijving
In “L’Instant de l’Esquisse,” Sophie Dumont continues her exploration of studio interiors, using a post-Cubist approach where each object becomes a pretext for structure and rhythm. The easel, centered in the composition, accommodates a canvas in progress, itself adorned with abstract signs evoking primary forms, somewhere between gaze and suggestion. To the right, a white carafe placed on a pedestal table balances the scene, acting as both a figure of observation and a formal counterpoint.
The palette, as is often the case with the artist, alternates between controlled contrasts: ochres and terracotta reds respond to muted blues and patinated grays, while structuring blacks anchor the objects in the pictorial space. The background suggests without imposing, creating a space that is both open and enveloping.
The black line that encircles the shapes does not freeze, but accentuates the musicality of the drawing, recalling a mental sketch of a familiar place. The result is a living, synthetic work, deeply anchored in the memory of the artistic gesture.
