Beschrijving
In “Lumières du Rivage”, Sophie Dumont captures the very essence of coastal light through a subtle play of colours and textures. This oil on linen canvas (65 x 81 cm unframed, 72 x 88 cm framed) is distinguished by the thickness of the material and the many layers of paint applied, creating a rich and textured surface that gives the work a tactile depth. Each brushstroke seems to evoke the transformation of light upon contact with water and sand, reflecting the intensity of marine reflections.
The choice of blue and ochre tones, combined with touches of white, evokes a shore bathed in light where the sea and the sky merge in a play of fluid horizons. The superimposed layers create an effect of constant movement, as if the landscape itself were breathing to the rhythm of the tide. This materiality accentuates the impression of a suspended moment, frozen in a transition of changing light, while capturing the dynamic and fleeting nature of the seaside.
“Lumières du Rivage” demonstrates Dumont’s mastery of manipulating color and texture to convey visual and tactile sensations. The work invites the viewer to immerse themselves in this vibrant landscape, to feel the subtle variations of light and to contemplate the ephemeral beauty of the shoreline.
