Beschrijving
This work by Sophie Dumont is part of an in-depth exploration of the structure of thought and visual memory. Through a play of superimposed layers and colored planes, the artist composes a rhythmic surface where each band seems to bear the trace of a moment, an idea, or a fragment of a story.
The deliberately elongated composition accentuates a sequential reading of the image, evoking a silent, almost meditative progression. The chromatic variations—sometimes muted, sometimes brighter—engage in a dialogue with the pictorial material, worked in layers through successive superimpositions of oil paint. This approach lends the work a palpable depth and a powerful physical presence.
Between abstraction and architectural evocation, this canvas can be seen as a metaphor for inner organization: a fragile yet balanced construction, where forms are arranged without ever becoming fixed. True to her pictorial language, Sophie Dumont invites the viewer to slow contemplation, leaving room for interpretation and personal experience.
