Beschrijving
In this large-format oil on canvas, Sophie Dumont develops a pictorial style based on the layering and fragmentation of space.
The composition, structured in horizontal strata, evokes an abstract landscape where the notion of depth arises less from perspective than from the accumulation of layers.
The palette, dominated by mineral and earthy tones, is punctuated by warmer touches that subtly rhythmically structure the whole. The paint, worked through successive additions, reveals areas of erasure and transparency, reinforcing the sensation of suspended time.
The work is distinguished by a masterful balance between structural rigor and gestural freedom. It invites slow contemplation, where the gaze lingers on the variations in texture and the subtle chromatic transitions. A painting with a silent yet assertive presence, characteristic of the artist’s current work.
