Description
Fleurs noires is built from dark vertical gestures on a vivid turquoise ground. Strokes of navy and black, scattered with fine white spatters, rise and fall across the canvas like stems and petals seen in shadow. The background, brushed in long vertical sweeps, gives the painting a feeling of depth, of water or sky behind the forms. This vertical acrylic on canvas plays on the contrast between the brightness of the blue and the density of the dark marks: an abstract bouquet in which the flowers are suggested rather than drawn.
