Description
In Fusion of Elements II, Sophie Dumont constructs the landscape through a succession of strata where dull blues, mineral grays, chalky whites, ochres, and earthy reds meet.
The different zones seem to overlap, dissolve, and then reappear, deliberately blurring the boundaries between sky, earth, and horizon. The material, worked in successive layers and then partially scraped, allows the earlier colors to surface and gives the surface its depth.
This work is part of Sophie Dumont’s research into abstract landscape. Nature is not literally represented: it becomes the starting point for a work on material, color, and the construction of space.
Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter. Her work develops around several series—abstract landscapes, libraries, studios, and geometric compositions—united by a common research into material, balance, and color. Her works are exhibited in galleries and museums and belong to private international collections.
