Description
Layers of History is a work in which the superposition of colors and materials evokes the stratification of time and memory. Through a gestural approach using oil and palette knife, Sophie Dumont sculpts the canvas by juxtaposing deep and luminous tones, creating a composition that is both vibrant and contemplative.
Each layer seems to tell a story, like a vestige of the past buried beneath the pictorial material. The subtle contrasts and marked reliefs give this work a particular intensity, where abstraction blends with an almost archaeological sensation of the landscape.
With Layers of History, the artist questions our relationship with time and visual memory, capturing the essence of a world in perpetual transformation. An invitation to delve into the depths of history, through matter and light.
The work is framed with an American oak or black box.
