Description
In Literary Waves 2, Sophie Dumont builds a library where the accumulation of books becomes rhythm, material, and architecture. The irregular verticals of the volumes succeed each other in a deliberately sober palette of off-whites, bluish-grays, ochres, browns, and blacks, punctuated by some warmer tones.
Worked by successive layers, the paint retains traces of the knife, scrapes, and overpainting. The imperfect contours and variations in material distance the composition from a realistic representation to make the library an almost abstract space.
The central structure breaks the regularity of the shelves and gives the whole its particular rhythm. The books are no longer only represented as objects: they become forms, lines, and fragments of an architecture built by color and material.
Framed: 87 × 87 cm, picture frame in natural wood.
