Beschrijving
With Palimpeste, Sophie Dumont offers a pictorial meditation on the theme of trace and memory. This abstract canvas, structured in dark horizontal layers, reveals unsuspected nuances in the light—as if ancient texts were attempting to reappear beneath the layers of oil.
The dense, intricately crafted material subtly captures the light. The artist plays on the contrasts between matte and shimmering to create an effect of depth and silent vibration. The composition evokes an invisible library, a space of buried memory. The title refers to the palimpsest: those ancient manuscripts erased and rewritten, where the imprint of the past still remains.
A conceptual painting, sober and powerful, on the border between abstraction and visual poetry.
